In college, I wound up being friends with some rock climbers.
There is one major climbing area in southern California. Joshua Tree National Park or Monument as it used to be called.
I didn’t climb rocks, but I tagged along in order to get to the desert.
I love the desert. The wide open spaces, the solitude, the quiet.
And almost every one of those friends who let me ride along, played U2, Joshua Tree.
So I learned to love the whole album.
The irony is, the cover photo was taken at Zabriski Point, in Death Valley, not at Joshua Tree.
